What does a pallet cost right now?

It depends on which yards you ask.

So let them compete. Tell us the pallet, your zip and your volume, plus any treatment you need, and one delivered price comes back in 5 business days.

The price you pay

What sets the price at your facility.

None of it is in an index. That's why two facilities buying the same pallet can pay very different prices, and why asking the yards near you is the only way to know yours.

Every quote starts here

  • The pallet

    Size, grade, new or recycled.

  • The treatment

If you need one: heat-treated or kiln dried.

  • The distance

How far it travels to your facility.

Every yard prices these. They set the starting point.

What moves it from there

  1. 01

How many yards are near you

More yards within a truck's reach means more of them wanting the same order. A facility with a dozen yards around it and one with two are in different markets, even for the same pallet.

  2. 02

    What goes back out

Volume is more than how many you take and how steady. If your facility has cores or other outbound material, that's supply for a yard, and taking it back on the delivery truck can help your price.

  3. 03

    The time of year

Supply ebbs and flows. In watermelon season, the B grades go out the door by the truckload. January through March, everything slows down. The same order can price differently in July than in February.

Your number

Two ways to find out what you should pay.

How many yards are around you?

Call the yards yourself.

Call a few yards around you, ask each one for a delivered price on the same pallet, and compare. It works. It takes a few days on the phone, and every yard you call has your number after.

Let them compete for it.

60 seconds, nothing to sign. The yards near you bid, and one delivered price comes back in 5 business days. Your contact details are never shared.

The costs behind pallets

Which way pallet costs are moving, every Tuesday.

The PSCI tracks what it costs to make and deliver pallets, from federal data. It shows which way the pressure is running. It is not a pallet price.

Questions

What buyers ask

How do I know if I'm paying a fair price?

Call a few yards around you, ask each one for a delivered price on the same pallet, and compare. Or take 60 seconds and let them compete for it: the yards near you bid, and one delivered price comes back in 5 business days to put next to what you pay now.

Is that the yard's price or yours?

Ours. It includes the yard's price and our rate, with delivery and every other charge in. One number you can put next to what you pay now.

How does Pallet Solutions make money?

If you take the price, our rate is part of it: 5% of the pallet cost plus $25 a load for a delivery, or 5% plus $40 a load for a core pickup. It's the same for every customer. It covers the yards, the POs and BOLs, the delivery schedule, disputes, the accounting and one invoice. If you don't take the price, it costs you nothing.

What happens if I say yes?

You order the way you do now, just through us, at our price. We run the rest end to end: the yard, the delivery, the paperwork and one invoice. One point of contact: us.

Will the price change after I say yes?

Only if the yard's price changes, and that usually happens for a reason. If it isn't a good one, we work it out with the yard to keep your price where it was.

Why would a yard bid through you?

Because it's work they wouldn't otherwise see, and they don't have to chase it. Each request comes with the full spec, so they can price it without a round of calls. Win or lose, every yard that bids hears the outcome. If they win, they get a PO, one customer on their books and payment from us, so they can run their yard.

Is the PSCI a pallet price?

No. It tracks five costs behind pallets - wood pallets, lumber, diesel, wages and cardboard - from federal data. When it rises, it costs more to make and deliver pallets. It does not tell you what a given yard charges.

How is the PSCI built?

Five federal series, weighted and combined into one number, published every Tuesday. Jan 2024 = 100. The full method is on the methodology page.
